Named for the Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes, this specimen represents the golden glass-like filaments left behind by flowing magma.

“Opal in Petrified Wood”, Acrylic on hand-woven nylon
The crackled, iridescent surface of this specimen recalls fiery opal filling the fissures of petrified wood.

“Pumice”, Pumice and acrylic on hand-woven batting
The soft woven surface of batting becomes an ironic representation of pumice, a hard, abrasive rock, when painted.

“Hematite”, Hand-woven wool, balsa wood, aluminum foil
Balsa wood woven into glittering wool represents the angular mineral, Hematite.

“Spirit Quartz”, Hand-woven various fiber and stiffening solution
Orange and brown wefts create the base of this quartz, from which protrudes spikes of purple amethyst.

“Crocoite”, Hand-woven fabric strips, red straws, 3D printer filament
